Nessie
The First recorded sighting was by St
Columba the Irish Missionary some 1400 years ago. Stories
of "Nessie" have been many and varied ever
since. The 2 Exhibition Centres in Drumnadrochit
have on display all the information of sightings and
details of the scientific research gathered over many
years and to this day the legend of "Nessie"
continues. I will leave you to discover for yourself
the attraction of Loch Ness and its illusive monster.
We have 2 Nessie Centres each with their own way of telling you all about "Nessie"
sightings over the years and about Loch Ness in general
Loch Ness
Scotland’s most famous stretch of water is over 800ft (240m)
deep in places and around 24mls (38km) long with a large diversity of scenery
along its length.
Drumnadrochit is the nerve centre of the Nessie legend, myth
etcWe all would like to believe in
“Nessie” and over the years there appears to have been many sightings from
visitors from home and abroad with many coming back year after year.
Even without the "Nessie" attraction Loch Ness,
Drumnadrochit, Glen Affric and all the surrounding area with its majestic hills
and spectacular scenery is a sight not to be missed.
Urquhart Bay
Urquhart Castle stands on a headland overlooking Urquhart
Bay and commands a lovely view over the loch and an ideal vantage point to look
for our elusive monster "Nessie".
There is a new car park and exhibition centre with a short
film showing the history of the castle and how it became a ruin in 1692. I will leave the film to tell you the rest
of the story.
Also well worth a visit is the new restaurant where you can relax and look over your purchases from the many gifts for sale or discuss the
legend of "Nessie" at same time
enjoying the scenic beauty of Loch Ness
while you sit overlooking Urquhart Castle and of course keeping a sharp look
out for “Nessie”.
